8:00 AM- 12:00 PM:         ACS: Finding your Pathway

1:30 AM-5:00 PM:           ACS Individual Resume Review


Career Pathway Workshops: “Finding your Pathway” explores different options for career objectives in chemistry.  It is targeted for all levels of participants, but should be of interest to undergraduates who may be unsure about the choices their degree offers.  “Individual Resume Review” will involve individual meetings with participants to critique their resume, helping them highlight strengths. No charge. Advance registration requested.


7:00 PM – 11:00 PM:       Social outing, billiards and bowling

This social activity is planned on the first evening of the meeting to acquaint undergraduate students from different Student ACS chapters. Free for undergraduates. Includes transportation, 1 free game voucher, pizza and refreshments. Advance registration not required.

8:30 – 10:30 AM:             Undergraduate Poster Session

10:30 AM – 11:30 AM:      Plenary: Kishor Wasan (UAEM)


Undergraduate research will be highlighted by offering students an opportunity to present their work in a poster session.  Select professionals from the Midland section will judge student presentations on both content and presentation.  A series of prizes ranging from gift cards to t-shirts will be awarded to the winners.  The awards will be presented at the start of the plenary lecture.  Kishor Wasan is the newly appointed director of the NGDI-UBC (Neglected Global Disease initiative at the University of British Columbia.

4:00 PM- 5:00 PM:            Chemical Processes in the Fermented and Distilled Beverage Industry (Lecture)

5:00 PM- 8:00 PM:            Brewery Tour (with Meal) Ticketed event


These series of events starts with a 4 pm seminar by Prof. Kris Berglund (MSU chemical engineer) and Dr. Chris Miller (MSU horticulturist/engineer).  Talks are focused upon distillation and fermentation in the beverage industry.  At 5 pm there will be a BBQ dinner at the Mount Pleasant Brewery.   Tours are expected to be available.  This will be followed by a social.   Ticket required for dinner/brewery tour.
